Frequently asked questions

Who holds the escrow funds?
Funds are held by our independent escrow provider, Trustap, not by Monie Safe. Neither party can access the funds unilaterally: the money is only released to the contractor or seller once the buyer approves the work or item, or an attorney's ruling directs it.
What if there's a dispute?
If both parties can't agree, a licensed attorney is assigned to review the evidence and rule on the dispute. Since the contract defines success criteria in advance, resolution is faster and more objective.
How much does Monie Safe cost?
Two fees, both a percentage of the escrow amount. The Monie Safe fee is 3%. The escrow fee is charged by our escrow provider for holding the money safely until you approve the work; it's shown to you in dollars and as a percentage before you pay it. If an attorney reviews your contract, there's also a flat $750 review fee, paid before the attorney receives it. Every fee is shown before you pay it — no surprises.
Does an attorney review every contract?
No. You and the contractor write and agree on the contract together, starting from our standard template. An attorney reviews it only for larger jobs ($25,000 and up), when you change the standard terms or completion criteria, or when either of you asks.
How do I know the attorney is qualified?
Every attorney's bar license is verified by Monie Safe before they can be assigned to a contract review or a dispute. Attorneys are assigned by the platform — neither party chooses them — and they review the agreement for the platform; they are not either party's lawyer.
What if I'm just buying or selling an item, not hiring a contractor?
That's Monie Safe Goods — a separate, simpler flow for any sale. Start a sale, share a link with the other party, and payment stays in escrow until they confirm receipt. No bidding and no contract negotiation required.
How much does Goods cost, and what if there's a dispute?
The seller pays a flat 2% Monie Safe fee, by card, once the buyer's payment is secured and before they ship, and gets it back if the buyer is refunded. The buyer pays the listed price plus an escrow fee: a percentage of the price, charged by our escrow provider for holding the money and shown in dollars and as a percentage before they pay. Disputes get a free admin review by default; either side can pay $150 to escalate to a binding attorney ruling, refunded if that ruling goes their way.
